People visiting Main Street will save a few bucks on Sundays through the beginning of June.

City Hall is offering free parking along Main Street on Sundays through June 1. The free parking is at the request of the Historic Park City Alliance, a group that represents businesses on or just off Main Street. Parking normally costs $1.50 per hour on Main Street.

It is a promotion meant to draw people to Main Street during what is normally a slow time for business. It was started for the year earlier in the spring. Alison Butz, the executive director of the Historic Park City Alliance, said the promotion is a thank you from the group and City Hall.

"We know the locals like to come up to Main Street in the off-season," she said.

Time limits and other restrictions remain intact. Year-round free parking is also available with longer time limits on Swede Alley and the China Bridge garage.

The Historic Park City Alliance, meanwhile, has compiled on its website a list of specials and sales through early June. The website is www.historicparkcityutah.com.

The promotion this year comes amid an extraordinarily busy construction season along Main Street. There are major private-sector projects underway, including the redevelopment of the building once known as the Main Street Mall, and City Hall is making streetscape improvements.

The various projects have temporarily eliminated some of the parking on Main Street. Some spots on Swede Alley have also been temporarily eliminated for construction staging.
