A Francis LDS missionary was injured in a car accident while serving in Honduras last Thursday. His companion, from El Salvador, was killed as a result of injuries sustained from the accident, according to Cody Craynor, spokesman for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Elder Angel de Jesus Martinez Campos, 27, of Usulutan, El Salvador, had been serving in the Honduras Tegucigalpa Mission of the LDS Church when the vehicle that he and Elder George B. Lewis, of Francis, crashed. Lewis also sustained injuries as a result of the accident, although he is expected to recover, according to Craynor's statement.
Campos had served as a missionary since October 2013. Craynor could not comment on the extent of Lewis' injuries. Intermountain Healthcare Hospitals spokesman Jess Gomez said on Tuesday that Lewis was released from an Intermountain facility in Salt Lake, but could not give specifics on his injuries.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy," Craynor said.
