The sight has become familiar to the Park City CrossFit community - Chris Spealler has advanced to the CrossFit Games for the seventh year.

The 35-year-old Parkite has made quite a habit out of advancing to the national stage during his career.

"This will be my eighth year competing, my seventh in the finals," Spealler said.

But, for Spealler, this will be the last time at Nationals, which will be held in Carson, California, in late July.

"This is going to be my last year," he said on Monday evening. "It's just time to focus on other things."

This time, it's about soaking in the atmosphere of the finals, since it'll be the last time he does CrossFit competitively.

"I just really want to enjoy it," he said. "It's a really cool experience. It's a ton of fun and a ton of work."

But that doesn't mean he doesn't also have some goals for what he'd like to accomplish at his last CrossFit Games.

"I would like to see if I can crack the top 10," he said. "But mostly I just hope to soak it in and enjoy myself."

Spealler has seen a lot of things change across the sport, making it better than he could have ever imagined eight years ago.

"CrossFit has evolved so much as a sport," he said. "The athletes have evolved and the sport has evolved with it. The weights are higher, there's more intensity - it really is a ton of work to prepare for it. It really is a full-time job."

Whatever happens at the CrossFit Games, Spealler, who will compete in the open class, will always have fond memories of his competition career.

But, he added, he's ready for the next step in his life.

"I'll really miss it," he said. "But I think I'll enjoy being a little more present with my community at the gym. I think it'll be fun to be a little more involved with some of the classes."

Spealler founded CrossFit Park City, which is located on Rasmussen Road, in 2007. He said he's looking forward to more interaction with CFPC members and less time spent doing his own training.

The non-competitive environment will be a welcome change of pace, he added.

"We've got a really great gym where we have people who use CrossFit as a means to get better at the things they do outside here in Park City," he said. "It's always fun to help them out."
