A man who had stolen a car from Summit Park was killed Sunday when he collided with a parked truck on I-80 just west of the East Canyon exit in Salt Lake County, the Utah Highway Patrol reported.
He was identified by the UHP as Marc Curtis, 48, of West Valley City.
The UHP said that after Curtis stole the Nissan from Summit Park in the early morning hours of Sunday morning, he was traveling westbound at a high speed and then ran off the roadway to the right. Off the roadway was an unoccupied pickup truck and a trailer, and the Nissan collided with the back of the truck.
Curtis was not wearing a seatbelt, the UHP said, and evidence indicated that drugs and alcohol was involved. He was the only person involved in the crash.
One lane of I-80 westbound was closed for about three hours as the UHP investigated.
The owner of the Nissan was not aware that his car had been stolen until he was notified by the UHP, according to the Summit County Sheriff's Department.
