Traffic Alert: I-80 WB

Update: UDOT reports that as of Approximately 2:15 p.m., all lanes on I-80 Westbound have reopened.

As of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday afternoon westbound Interstate 80 was closed after a vehicle struck a Utah Department of Transportation vehicle.

According to Sergeant Todd Royce, with the Utah Highway Patrol, at approximately noon, a UDOT incident management worker was clearing a crash that occurred on the inside line of I-80 when his vehicle was rear-ended.

Royce said the UDOT worker was outside of his truck, but jumped back in as the crash occurred. He sustained only minor injuries. However, the driver is in a "very critical condition," Royce said.

Royce did not have any additional information about the driver or the worker.

Westbound I-80 was closed at mile marker 136 near Lambs Canyon and Royce said he did not know when it would reopen.

"It could be as open as soon as an hour or two, but it will probably be slightly longer than that," he said around 2 p.m. adding, "anyone that is in Park City, it would probably be time-conducive for them to go down Provo Canyon or people can go up East Canyon."
