Martha Raddatz, senior foreign affairs correspondent for ABC News, was lauded for her performance as moderator of the first and only vice presidential debate in the 2012 election, primarily for coming off as having control over the flow and command of the content during the debate.
.@Martha Raddatz ran this debate with a LOT MORE FORCE and BALLS than Jim Lehrer ran his. Good job! #TeamJoeSweet Cheeses!
Possibly the best debate moderator ever, this Raddatz personRobert Draper
The New York Times’ Andrew Rosenthal blogged “In praise of Martha Raddatz,” crediting her with not asking “puffy questions” or letting candidates get away with “vague answers” as he says Jim Lehrer did while presiding over the first presidential debate between President Barack Obama and Republican challenger Mitt Romney.

Lehrer is executive editor of PBS News Hour.

Could it be that Raddatz learned from the lambasting served on Lehrer? Newsday gives her a pat on the back for pushing the vice presidential candidates in follow up questions to be more precise in their answers and give more details  on their policy stances. For example, listen she gets to bottom of the one fundamental difference between the opposing campaign proposals on withdrawal from Afghanistan.

This is the part of the debate where Martha Raddatz stares deep into Biden and Ryan’s souls.Andrew Kaczynski
So this was a solid win for Biden, I’d say; as well as a competent performance by Ryan. The star? Raddatz. http://thebea.st/VWXJFtAndrew Sullivan
A word about Raddatz: she is making the case for Jim Lehrer’s retirement. http://thebea.st/VWXJFtAndrew Sullivan
Biden won this as convincingly as Romney did. And Raddatz was as good as Lehrer was bad.Nicholas Thompson
But there were observers who got annoyed at Biden and felt Raddatz allowed him to interrupt Ryan too often.

RT @antheajk: Jim Lehrer was a better moderator. At least you could clearly hear the individual debaters. No talking over each other. #debatesAgnes S Kamalnath
Definitely preferred the other debate..Lehrer barely speaking was much better than Martha interrupting all the time and changing the subjectRyan Lang
I miss Jim Lehrer. @NewsHour #debateKarl Rove
