To celebrate, the film series will host a Pre-Oscar Party on Saturday, March 1, at the Kimball Art Center's Garage Gallery. Tickets are $50.
The party, which will run from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m., and will feature a curated collection of Academy Award-nominated short films, catered food, libations and prizes, is a fundraiser for the Reel Community Series, said Katharine Wang, Park City Film Series executive director.
"The Reel Community Series is what we do the second Thursday of each month," Wang told The Park Record. "We partner with a local nonprofit organization and either host a free screening or fundraiser for that organization. It's our way of giving back to the community and help local nonprofits elevate their missions through film."
Hosting a Pre-Oscar party is something that the Film Series has always wanted to do.
"We're really excited to pull something together like this," Wang said. "Since this is our first annual event, we're looking forward to building on this in years to come."
The main feature for the party this year is the private screening of the Oscar-nominated shorts.
"We are actually getting the entire collection, so we can pick from animated, live action and documentary shorts," she said.
Park City Film Series programmer George Dymalski will select the films for the party.
"We'll have a program schedule to hand out so people can have the freedom to kind of skip around the films they don't want to see," Wang said. "We'll have a break between each one so people can go get something to eat or, if they decide not to see the next short, they can take a break. That's one of the beauties of shorts is that they are only 10 minutes long and you can pick which ones you want to see."
Dymalski selected three shorts for the party.
The food will be catered by Cooking Unlimited and Bohemian Brewery will donate some beers,
"We'll also have a selection of fine wines that will round the spread out," Wang said.
In addition to the food and films, the event will feature a red carpet area.
"Photographer Jill Orschel, who is one of our projectionists, will take photos of our guests, so it will be a very Oscar-esque evening," Wang said.
Throughout the night, the Park City Film Series staff will ask film-trivia questions and hand out prizes.
"We're getting donations from various businesses and the prizes will include spa treatments, manicures, shaves for men, and other things like that," Wang said. "We will also give people gift bags and Oscar ballots to those who come to the party."
After the party, the Park City Film Series will present its regular weekend Saturday screening at the Jim Santy Auditorium in the Park City Library and Education Center, 1255 Park Ave., at 8 p.m. (See story titled Park City Film Series schedule for Feb. 28 through March 2)
The films screened at the Santy on Saturday evening will be the whole collection of Oscar-nominated animated short films.
