The quarterly public performance is as seasonal fundraiser and rock concert recital. There is an "at the door" suggested admission price of $5 for youth and $10 for adults with a "pay what you can" policy for entry into the 190-seat-capacity venue.
Seasonal shows not only help raise funds for the after-school program, but serve as the "final exam" for the musician's enrolled who choose or write new songs for their MusicGarage friends to learn each season toward developing a summer festival season repertoire.
The concert reflects the diversity of the student's rock and pop music taste with songs they chose ranging from current hits by Capital Cities and One Republic to classics from Ozzy Osbourne, Dio, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, Supertramp and a dozen more.
The shows are delivered in two 45-minutes sets that provide early evening entertainment for an opportunity for families and young musicians to check out the after-school and summer youth programs offered by MusicGarage.Org.
Based on the 2013 Scholarship Program Report to the Utah Arts Alliance, a non-profit fiscal sponsor, MusicGarage.Org band members, comprised of students ages 6 to18, who, on average, enroll at age 13 and stay in the after-school rock band program for 29 months.
In 2013, 13 percent of the youth received full or partial scholarships.
About 90 percent of the young musicians take their private lessons from teaching musicians in the community.
In this way, unlike music schools that hire a faculty, MusicGarage.Org supports musicians who teach private lessons by acting as a recital service.
