For the past 16 years, the Park City Area Home Builders Association has hosted the Park City Area Showcase of Homes.

The idea is to recognize the builders, the architects and the interior designers of these homes, said Geri Strand, executive officer of the Park City Area Home Builders Association.

"Most of these are custom homes and some of them are for sale," Strand told The Park Record. "[The tour] is a collaboration with all of them and, in some cases, the owners."

This year's Park City Area Showcase of Homes will run this weekend through Sunday, Aug. 24, and next weekend from Friday, Aug. 29, through Monday, Sept. 1.

The hours are Fridays from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Saturdays through Sunday and Labor Day from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Tickets are $12 in advance or online and $15 at the door, and there will be five homes on the tour that will sell tickets as well, according to Strand.

A portion of all ticket sales will be donated to the Park City Area Home Builders Charitable Foundation, a non-profit charitable organization, she said.

"A ticket is good for both weekends, so people can see a couple of homes today and tomorrow and continue the tour next weekend," she said.

There are 19 homes on the tour this year.

"The tour starts up in Deer Valley and we have a couple in the Park Meadows area, three in the Colony and we always have one up in the Woods at Parley's, which is always nice to have," Strand said.

There are also three homes at Promontory, one at Tuhaye and seven in the Heber and Midway area.

"Typically, we usually showcase one or two over in the Heber area, but that area is growing so fast and we have a nice variety over there," she said. "We've got everything from some big custom homes and some reasonably priced homes. And that's kind of cool."

Although the houses are numbered, the tour is self-guided.

"This way, people can visit the homes in any order," Strand explained. "There is one entry per house, but this year we are allowing people to go back to two of their favorite houses."

The Park City Area Home Builders Association selects which houses are on the tour through an application process.

"The builder will submit an application with an entry fee, because we want the builders to be active in our association," Strand explained. "We then have a committee that reviews the application,"

Those who go on the tour will see the latest in architecture and interior design.

"They are just unbelievable, and the landscaping will blow your mind away," Strand said. "One of my favorite things about these homes is how they reflect outdoor living. These homes have amazing views and have huge windows that, in a sense, bring outdoor living inside."

The tour also allows the public to get an idea of the builders,' designers' and owners' personalities.

"We've noticed this year is that there are 96 bedrooms and 93 bathrooms on this tour," Strand said. "To get a feel for what people do with their closets and bathrooms is a fun little tidbit in the tour."

The sponsors this year include Zion' Bank, which is the event's title sponsor, and Questar Gas is our energy champion sponsor, Mountain West Bank, Hamilton Park Interiors and Mountain Land Design.

Over the past 16 years, the Park City Area Home Builders Association has seen design trends come and go.

"This year's tour will showcase a lot of contemporary designs, along with the mountain, rustic retreat type of design you would expect in Park City," Strand said.

Once people complete the tour, they can vote on their favorite kitchen, outdoor living, master bedroom or master bath and a People's Choice Award.

"We have an app that is available for iPhone and Android that will have a map, a list of houses and a place where people can vote," Strand said. "People can download the app online from our website."

The Park City Area Home Builders Association and Zion's Bank will present the 2014 Park City Area Showcase of Homes through Sunday, Aug. 24, and Friday through Sunday, Aug. 29-Sept. 1. This year's Showcase will feature 19 homes throughout the Park City and Heber Valley areas. For more information, visit www.PCShowcaseOfHomes.com.
