Museum offers members an extravaganza

The Park City Museum wants to help their members get into the spirit of the season, so it will host a holiday shopping extravaganza on Wednesday, Dec. 3, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.

The idea developed last year during a board meeting, said Sandra Morrison, executive director of the Park City Museum.

"We hosted a number of groups last year at the museum and it was fun for them to not only see the museum, but to do some holiday shopping at the same time," Morrison told The Park Record. "So we as an organization discussed how we could offer new and fun activities for our membership and came up with this idea."

The extravaganza is open to museum members only, but people can buy memberships before or on the day so they can participate.

An individual membersship is $55, and a family membership for up to four people is $100, Morrison said.

Memberships can be purchased at the museum, 528 Main St., or online by visiting http://www.parkcityhistory.org .

Members will feel the benefits of memership during the sale, Morrison said.

"The museum store gives a 10 percent discount to members anyway as a thank you for their support, but we came up with a fun idea that features an opportunity drawing for them to receive a higher discount, up to 40 percent," she said.

The items in the shop are a good mix with items that will appeal to children as well as adults.

"We have expanded the merchandise tremendously," Morrison said. "A lot of those items are educational and explain Park City history, so parents can feel good giving these to their children. And we also have a great selection of items that will appeal to parents as well. These items are unique to us, so we aren’t competing with the rest of the merchants on Main Street.

"These gifts reflect all the exhibits both present and past that we have shown at the museum," she said. "That way, people can take a bit of Park City history home with them."

In addition to discounts at the shop, the other museum membership benefits include free admission to the museum for one year, newsletters and invitations to other fun and exclusive membership activities.

"We take them on skiing tours of historic mines sites in the winter and we love to go hiking with them in the summer," Morrison said. "We’re always trying to keep history fun. Park City’s history is fascinating. It’s about people from all over the world moving here, which is what’s happening today."

The holiday shopping extravaganza is also a way for members to mingle and get to know each other.

"We are going to offer some refreshments, because shopping is a thirsty business," Morrison said with a laugh.

The Park City Museum’s holiday shopping extravaganza for members will be held Wednesday, Dec. 3, at the museum’s store, 528 Main St., from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Memberships are available now at the museum or visiting http://www.parkcityhistory.org . The museum is open every day from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. For more information, call 435-649-7457.
