With ski season having just ended in Park City, looking ahead at summer plans might seem like a bit of a stretch.
But, for parents in Park City, it's time to start planning a summer camp schedule for their children.
Jessica Moran, recreation supervisor for Park City Recreation, said she's seen an increase in camp registrations already this year.
"We are already experiencing huge registration numbers for some of our programs," she said. "Our summer day camp program is filling up more quickly than we have ever seen before."
Though Moran added that Park City Recreation is "hoping to be able to accommodate everyone" if they can, she advises that parents take a look at signing their children up for camps as soon as possible.
"All of our summer programs opened for registration on April 1," she said. "They're open until they're full, but the sooner the better."
Angie Greenburg, recreation coordinator at Basin Recreation, agreed, saying that even though some of Basin Rec's camps are offered multiple times a summer, space is limited.
"Some of our camps are almost full," she said. "Our H2O adventure camp is almost full and there's a sailing camp that has a lot of sign-ups already."
Most of Basin Recreation's summer camps are open to children ages 6-12, but Greenburg added that a couple camps, such as Munchkin Soccer Camp, are open for ages 4-6.
For parents looking for weeklong child care, Moran suggests Park City Recreation's Day Camp.
"That's a 9 to 5 type camp where the kids do arts and crafts, play sports and visit the library," she said. "We're located in City Park, so the kids have a great location to get out and about in that program."
Basin Rec's Summer Blast Camp is also a popular day camp, Greenburg said.
"The kids do arts and crafts, play all kinds of sports and swim every day," she said. "We do a theme every week. Sometimes it will be a sports theme, sometimes it will be an art or nature theme. We just try to mix it up for the kids."
And, for kids and parents who want to switch things up for a week, there are plenty of weeklong specialty camps, from Park City Recreation's skateboarding, dirt jumping or tennis camps, or Basin Rec's basketball, volleyball, soccer and mountain biking classes.
Park City Recreation and Basin Recreation's summer camp offerings begin June 9 and end Aug. 20.
