Every day athletes, technicians and trainers at the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's Center of Excellence employ state-of-the-art technology to hone the gold-medal-winning skills of some of our nation's best athletes. But today USSA announced that it's also taken the lead in a new form of electronic fundraising called crowdfunding.
One year ago, it partnered with Salt Lake City-based athletic crowdfunding leader RallyMe.com, and the partnership has paid off. Ninety national team members, club athletes, and ski organizations ran individual fundraising campaigns and raised $486,000 from 3,777 donors. With these results, USSA becomes the most successful national governing body in the world at harnessing the power of the fast-growing crowdfunding industry.
"RallyMe has proven to be an effective tool for us to provide structure and support to our athletes in raising funds for their personal travel and living costs," said Luke Bodensteiner, executive vice president of athletics at USSA.
"With RallyMe we've been able to strengthen the funding partnership with our athletes, and focus resources on our collective goal of being best in the world, while providing a strong avenue for athletes to also support their individual careers," he said.
USSA athletes raised from $1,500 to $55,000. Park City's Lindsey Van, who made her ski jumping Olympic debut in Sochi, raised $23,000. Snowboarder and Olympian Justin Reiter raised $17,800, and up-and-coming speedster Paula Moltzan, of Minneapolis, raised $23,000. RallyMe is a safe and secure online platform that provides sophisticated tools and templates to help athletes easily share their personal stories and fundraising message across social media venues.
"Being able to work with a visionary partner such as USSA has helped us hone our platform to better serve the world's athletes," said RallyMe founder and CEO Bill Kerig.
RallyMe also partnered with USA Bobsled and Skeleton, U.S. Speedskating and USA Cycling. The emerging platform has garnered favorable reviews from Forbes, the Washington Post, and CNBC, which called RallyMe "the gold-medal standard in crowdfunding."
Building on its success, RallyMe is meeting with Park City investors to fund further expansion and marketing of the platform to empower athletic fundraising all over the world.
