August may seem like a strange time for ski jumping, but the Utah Olympic Park will host the U.S. Ski Jumping National Championships on Sunday, Aug. 3.

Beginning at 8 a.m., many members of the national team will compete on the large hill with hopes of claiming a national title.

Jumping from a flexible plastic ramp onto grass, jumpers routinely soar more than 100 meters.

Last year, Parkite Sarah Hendrickson won the women's national title and Nick Fairall earned the men's title.

On Saturday, the 16th annual Springer Tournee wraps up at the Olympic Park. The Tournee, which draws top ski jumpers and Nordic combined athletes, has events for junior and senior jumpers on hills up to the HS-100.

Both awards ceremonies will take place following the ski jumping championships on Sunday.
