Sean McColl and Claire Buhrfeind took the title of Psicobloc Master Series 2014 champions Friday, Aug. 8, at the Utah Olympic Park.
The exciting climbing competition may be over but visitors and locals alike can continue to experience the thrill of deep-water soloing as the Psicobloc wall remains open daily for public climbing from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Aug. 24.
In its second year, the 2014 Clif Bar Psicobloc Master Series competition brought some of the world's biggest names in climbing, as well as up-and-coming athletes, to the 50-foot wall for an exciting evening of head-to-head competition. The field of 16 climbers included Alex Johnson, Sasha DiGiulian, Ashima Shiraishi, Chris Sharma, Jimmy Webb and Daniel Woods. Sixteen-year-old Claire Buhrfeind from Plano, Texas, was able to edge past Delaney Miller in the finals for the win. Sean McColl beat Chris Sharma in the semifinals and Daniel Woods in the final round to take the title.
The Psicobloc wall is open daily through Aug. 24. There will be multiple routes available with varying degrees of difficulty (5.8 to 5.12). Day passes are available for purchase in the Quinney Welcome Center at the Utah Olympic Park. Adult passes are $20 and youth (ages 7 to 12) passes are $15.
