North Summit swimmers win region title

The North Summit boys and girls swim teams earned Region 2A North titles on Jan. 28 at South Summit.

It has been a busy season for North Summit High School swimmers, and the miles and time in the water are paying off. The Region 2A North Division Championship was held Thursday, Jan. 28, at South Summit. Both the boys’ and girls’ teams earned first place.

The region championship meet started with the women’s 200-yard medley relay, with the "A" team of Saige Crittenden, Abbi Zwahlen, Jennifer Moody and Sadie Boyer placing second. The men’s "A" team, consisting of Trystin Hellander, Eisley Scholes, Sam Crittenden and Eli Crittenden, placed first.

In the men’s 200 free, Chris Doubleday placed third. In the 200 IM event, swimmers must swim 50 yards of each major stroke. For the women’s team, Sadie Boyer placed second. For the men’s 200 IM, Eisley Scholes placed second.

The women’s 50 free was swum by Abbi Zwahlen, who placed second. In the men’s 50 free, Sam Crittenden placed second.

For the women’s 100 fly, Jennifer Moody took first with her personal best time of 1 minute, 18.19 seconds. Saige Crittenden finished second.

In the men’s 100 freestyle, Sam Crittenden took second and Eli Crittenden placed third.

Maggie Zwahlen was third in the women’s 500 free and Chris Doubleday took third in the men’s event.

The 200 freestyle relay team of Makenzi Crittenden, Delanie Robertson, Sadie Boyer and Abbi Zwahlen took second. The men’s relay team of Eisley Scholes, Eli Crittenden, Trystin Hellander and Sam Crittenden finished first.

Delanie Robertson placed second in the women’s 100 backstroke. In the men’s 100 back, Trystin Hellander placed second and Porter Hellander finished third.

In the women’s 100 breaststroke race, Sadie Boyer finished first and Abbi Zwahlen took second. For the men, Eisley Scholes finished first and Joe Hobbs took third.

For the meet, the North Summit women came in first with 330 points. The men also took first place with 411 points. The Braves will compete at the 2A state meet on Feb. 11 at the Brigham Young University pool.
