Jeremy Ranch open to Nordic skiers
January 2, 2015
Park City now has another place for Nordic skiers to hit the tracks.
This winter, the Jeremy Golf and Country Club opened a public Nordic center. With 12 kilometers of groomed skate and classic track, there’s something for skiers of all abilities.
Head Golf Pro Jake Hanley said the club tried to start the Nordic center last winter, but it’s finally taking off this year.
"Last year, we kind of started a little bit of track and this year it’s taken on a whole new level," he said. "We’ve been open since Saturday [Dec. 27] and it’s been great."
Those familiar with the old Nordic ski tracks in the Jeremy area may remember some pretty advanced terrain with difficult hills. Hanley said the new tracks are designed with all abilities in mind.
"There’s a little bit of everything," he said. "We’ve got 9K along the East Canyon Creek that’s relatively more-beginner skier level. There are some hills that would be more advanced, but overall the terrain is very average difficulty. It’s not a more difficult, hilly terrain — there’s something for everyone."

Hanley said the club had help from an Olympic gold medalist to ensure the skiing would be great for everyone.
"Billy Demong designed our track and has been a great partner in getting the concept going," he said. "We’re grooming it daily and Billy’s been able to bring out some younger athletes to train on the track as well.
"To have someone like Billy showing us the way to do it, it’s a win-win for everybody — the club, the community and skiers in Salt Lake, Summit and Wasatch counties."
The driving force behind creating the Nordic center was to make sure the terrain wasn’t being wasted during the winter months.
"The main reason to get it going again was we were trying to have a more year-round activity for the community and our current membership," he said. "This was a great avenue to go down. More people have been able to utilize the club and the grounds. We felt like there was a real opportunity to utilize our terrain again and the feedback has been great so far."
Plans are in the works to get some events on the calendar, including demo days and races. But, Hanley said, those are still to-be-determined.
The Jeremy Nordic center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Track conditions will be posted on the TUNA website (http://www.utahnordic.com ). For more information, call the pro shop at 435-649-2700 (ext. 3) or visit http://www.thejeremy.com .
