The PRCA Oakley Rodeo will be back for the 78th year beginning July 3.

The four-day event features four rodeo performances with $80,000 in total prize money, a 5K, a parade and plenty of kids’ activities. Fireworks performances will follow each professional rodeo show as long as the weather is cooperative.

Andy Woolstenhulme, a rodeo committee member, said the rodeo is supposed to be even bigger and better this year.

"We’ve added $30,000 in prize money," he said. "That will help us attract the best contestants."

He added that this year’s entertainment will be provided by barrel man Mark Swingler.

"He has been nominated twice as the PRCA clown of the year and is one of top five rodeo entertainers in the country," he said.

The tourists who visit for the four-day rodeo will provide Oakley with plenty of income.

"We’re able to bring a lot of people into the community and raise money to support local taxpayers," Woolstenhulme said. "We’re one of the largest PRCA rodeos, so that’s pretty special for the small town of Oakley."

Woolstenhulme said there will also be a lot of local influence at the rodeo.

"We’re one of the events that involves the entire community," he said. "There’s something for everyone."

Tickets can be purchased by calling 435-783-5753 or by going to http://www.oakleycity.com . The cost is $15 for each performance.

"There are still plenty of tickets left for Wednesday," Woolstenhulme said. "But Thursday, Friday and Saturday are filling in quickly."
