Park City Women’s Golf Association hosts annual rally
July 26, 2013
The 9-hole group had over 70 of its members play, each donating a minimum of $20. The members also donated gift baskets, which were given away in an opportunity drawing to raise additional funds. The gift baskets were valued in the thousands of dollars, with golf attire, bags, picnic baskets and Olympic Park tickets as just a few of the prizes. The 9-hole league raised over $3,000. Half of this money will be sent to Komen for the Cure, the majority of which will stay in the state of Utah, and the other half will be sent directly to the Huntsman Cancer Institute, a cancer research facility and hospital located on the campus of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The 18-hole league held a luncheon and also raised considerable funds for the charities.
The PCWGA would like to thank all those who took part, donated, and volunteered for the event, especially Dori Schmalza (mom of local ski jumper Abby Hughes), who headed up much of the organization of the 9-hole league’s event. They would also like to welcome any local women who would like to join the league. They are a fun, friendly organization, and the largest league in the state, playing every Tuesday from May through September at the Park City Golf Course.
