Smith's Food & Drug will celebrate the remodel of its grocery store at 1725 West Uintah Way in Park City on Wednesday, July 10, with a ribbon cutting at 7:30 a.m. with Summit County Officials, Smith's executives and the Park City Chamber of Commerce.

The first 300 customers will receive free breakfast items and a chance to win one of three iPads to be given away at 10 a.m., 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Smith's will also donate $1,000 to the Christian Center Food Pantry.

The $10 million remodel is a complete redesign to the store's look and feel with beautiful wooden floors and contemporary décor, wider aisles and 15,000 square feet of additional shopping space. The front of the store has been reconfigured with new check stands, a customer service center, Starbucks Coffee kiosk and expanded pharmacy with enlarged consultation area for customer privacy.

The redesign offers expanded full-service meat, seafood cases and deli cases; extensive sushi, antipasto, cheese and olive islands; enhanced European bakery department to include fresh artisan breads; expanded dairy and frozen foods aisles; and a widely expanded produce department offering a large new selection of organic fruits and vegetables.

As part of its ongoing effort to reduce energy use, Smith's has implemented technologies in heating, cooling, water, and lighting. Smith's replaced fluorescent bulbs in hundreds of glass door freezers and coolers with more efficient LED lights.

Additionally, old floor tiles were removed with the underlying concrete floor polished eliminating the need for harsh chemicals to clean the floor. Recycling bins at the front of the store encourage shoppers to reuse their own bags. Parent company Kroger just released its annual sustainability report that details further measures at www.sustainability.kroger.com.

Customers in Summit County enjoy Smith's rewards card program, which gives customers one point for every dollar spent on groceries and most nonfood items. Accumulated rewards points can be applied to fuel savings up to $1 per gallon at the newly opened Smith's Express fuel station adjacent to the store.

In 2012, Smith's donated $27,764.00 to Trailside Elementary School in Park City through its Earn & Learn program. Additionally, through its Grocery Rescue program, Smith's regularly donates non-sellable but still nutritious foods to the Christian Center of Park City that in 2012 created more than 5,000 meals for hungry people in Summit County.

Smith's is a division of the Kroger Co., one of the nation's largest grocery retailers, and operates 131 stores in seven western states including 47 stores in Utah. Smith's charitable giving, in partnership with 15,600 associates, generous customers and suppliers, totaled $ 10 million in cash and food products to local Utah organizations in 2012.
