Gary Portnoy once sang that "sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name." Bruce and Deb Corrigan started up a bar and grill in 1994 centered on that very idea, and 19 years later, you can be certain that "they're always glad you came."

O'Shucks Bar and Grill has been located at 427 Main Street since Aug. 19, 1994, and according to Bruce, they have been open every single day since then. Monday marks 19 years in Park City, and the Corrigans are inviting anyone and everyone who loves their business to celebrate with them at the bar that day from 6 p.m. to close.

"My wife and I, we always love throwing a party," said Corrigan, "and we wanted to take the time to step back and celebrate as well as thank our staff and guests."

Staying open 365 days a year has proved tasking, but according to Corrigan, the staff takes the business very personally and seriously and wants the bar open every day as much as he and his wife do.

Billy Pierret, originally from New Jersey, moved to Park City in 1994 and was one of O'Shucks' first customers. He has now been a bartender for the Corrigans for a little over 10 years.

Pierret sits comfortably on one of the wooden stools at the bar, talking casually with other staff and customers. He is obviously at ease in the snug "little hole in the wall."

"We've definitely got that hometown bar feel," said Pierret. "In general, we just want people to come in, have a great time and enjoy hanging out with friends.

Corrigan was working in the radio industry while his wife worked as a graphics designer when they first moved to Park City in the late 80s. Their first venture into the restaurant industry was in Corpus Christi, Texas, and when they relocated to Park City, they saw an opportunity for another venture on Main Street and took it, Corrigan said.

Now an understated white sign with green letters greets customers at the entrance midway up Park City's busy Main Street, a somewhat hidden entrance to a small but friendly spot to have a drink or a meal.

According to Pierret, the most common order is a Schooner, a Pabst Blue Ribbon or a shot of Fireball Whiskey. Customers also enjoy the daily "Shucks Burger" special, a quarter-pound beef burger for $3 until 3 p.m.

When customers aren't eating, there are several classic arcade games and a pool table to pass the time in the back of the dim-lit bar.

"This is a ski town bar built by skiers for skiers," said Corrigan. "Most ski towns aim for high-end, and we went for the opposite approach; we want to super-serve our locals and give them what they really want after hitting the slopes."

Corrigan hopes that the celebration on Monday will honor the staff and guests that made their business flourish. They will be showing their gratitude by offering commemorative glasses to the first 100 guests and free food, including sushi from their other location.

O'Shucks Bar and Grill would never have survived for 19 years if not for the people that keep working, keep coming, and keep it open, he said.

"Our place has become a second home for locals as well as visitors that are in town for either several days or several weeks," said Corrigan. "I can guarantee that if you come in even just once or twice, we'll know your name when you come back."
