Thanksgiving weekend bookings remain strong
Projected lodging bookings for the Thanksgiving holiday are slightly below last year’s tally but higher than two years ago, according to numbers from the Park City Chamber/Bureau.
According to the numbers, the estimated 33,260 visitor nights from Nov. 23 to Nov. 29 is down from 35,503 actual visitor nights last year. Last year’s projected number was 33,462. If this year’s projection is accurate, it would mark a sustained increase over two years ago, which saw 29,592 visitor nights.
Erin O’Keefe, membership services manager at the Chamber/Bureau, said the numbers indicate Park City is a popular destination for families vacationing over Thanksgiving weekend.
"It shows we’re growing and bringing more people to Park City," she said. "We have so much to offer, especially for Thanksgiving-themed things. There are family events, and a lot of restaurants have all sorts of Thanksgiving specials for families visiting in town. I think we do a really good job of making this a place to come over Thanksgiving weekend."
With Thanksgiving weekend serving as sort of a kick-off to the winter season in town, O’Keefe said the strong booking numbers are encouraging, though she cautioned that they are not necessarily indicative of what’s to come.
"It’s still really early in the winter season," O’Keefe said. " no means is that a forecast for winter. But it’s an exciting time of year — resorts are opening, more people are starting to come into town, and we’re starting to get into that holiday swing. It’s definitely good that we’re pretty comparable to last year."
