Souzzann Zink has returned to Another Way Montessori School as their new Director of Education. The school was founded by Diane Bode 10 years ago and combines the Montessori Method of education with specialized outdoor programs.
When asked about her decision to return to the school after teaching in a charter school for three years, Zink explained, "Another Way has a unique place in the Montessori community. We have several high-quality Montessori schools in Utah, but this school has the potential to be a model for specialized Montessori schools across the country."
Another Way, located at 6587 Mountain View Drive in Park City, offers a horseback riding program as part of the regular school curriculum. In the winter, skiing replaces horseback riding. Another Way Ski School is a PSIA Certified Ski School in the Intermountain Division.
Zink has over 15 years of experience in Montessori education, including directing and teaching in her own Montessori school in Bountiful in the 1980s. She has her Montessori elementary certification from Montessori Education Programs International, American Montessori Society training for early childhood, and a Utah teaching license. This December, she will complete a Masters of Education through a special Montessori program at St. Catherine's University in Minnesota.
When asked about her decision to hire Zink as Director of Education, Another Way founder Diane Bode explained, "She's got a great heart, an extraordinary knowledge base and a passion for what she's doing that comes into everything she does."
The Montessori approach features individualized education. Many of the learning materials in typical elementary school today, such as special blocks to help children learn place value or pie-sectioned circles for fraction study, were originally Montessori's creation.
According to Zink, "The materials are an essential part of allowing the children to both learn at their own pace and follow their interests."
She stressed how important it was that Another Way has a full complement of the specially designed Montessori learning materials and well-trained teachers. "I am thrilled to be a part of a school with a solid Montessori foundation and such wonderful extras as our skiing and horseback riding programs."
