The "Beat the Call" event leads up to the Phone-A-Thon on Oct. 21-24, which is the PCEF's largest fundraiser of the year. According to Abby McNulty, Executive Director of the PCEF, the class at each school with the highest percentage of participation will receive a pizza party sponsored by Papa John's.
The school with the highest total overall will win a $2,000 grant from Educational Advantage, a local business that conducts tutoring for students in town, she said.
"If we do not hear from parents by the time the Phone-A-Thon rolls around, we give them a call," McNulty said. "We make phone calls in the evening beginning at 6 p.m., and we have 30 volunteer callers every night."
McNulty said that the Montage Deer Valley Resort is working with the PCEF training volunteers on how to help with conversation and answer questions, information that will help a volunteer caller be more comfortable on the phone.
The PCEF is also working with the PTO and PTA at each school by asking them to contribute at least 10 volunteers, she said, and those schools that accomplish that receive 10 percent of the "parent appeal" donations from that school.
"It's a way to cooperate with the PTOs to help provide volunteers for PCEF events," McNulty said. "We can complement each other very nicely instead of competing for donations.
The "parent appeal" is terminology used to describe the funds raised by "Beat the Call" and the Phone-A-Thon, she said. Last year's "parent appeal" raised enough money that the PCEF was able to donate $266,000 in district grants.
"It's our generous parent participation that allows us to make these significant donations that Park City children are really benefitting from," McNulty said.
