"We experienced such huge growth this past year that we just knew we would be hiring someone," said Abby McNulty, executive director of the Ed Foundation. "We had to think about where we want to be in five years, and it became a conversation about staffing and staffing needs."
The three-person operation currently consists of McNulty, Events, Marketing and Communications Manager Jennifer Billow and Annual Fund Manager Abby Funabiki. The new addition to the team will be hired through the Park City School District.
The Programs Officer will not only facilitate the distribution of grants at all three levels --teacher, site and district—but also facilitate all meetings and conversations regarding the assessment of the programs put in place with the grants.
This year, school-site grants were awarded to the Author-in-Residence program at the high school, Writing for Middle School at Ecker Hill and art specialists at McPolin and Parley's Park Elementary Schools. District grants included robotics support, Latinos in Action support and the Promise Park City elementary afterschool program. Teacher grants for the 2014-2015 school year have yet to be announced.
"We want someone who can bring project management expertise and make suggestions as to how to streamline and improve the programs we have in place," McNulty said. "We need someone who can build strong relationships with the board members, volunteers, teachers and principals we serve."
McNulty said having to hire a new member on the team is a sign of the significant growth the organization has experienced. The annual Running with Ed Relay in May, which funds school-site grants, raised $240,000, more than it has ever raised before.
Applications are being accepted through the district's website, and McNulty said they will keep the application window open until they find someone who is the right fit.
"We are growing because there is such great community support for the kids in the school district," she said. "To be in the position to hire another part-time team member means we will be able to strengthen what we do, become better stewards of education and continue to grow long-time."
