"Souper" Bowl of Caring
Community Action Services and Food Bank will be doing its annual "Souper" Bowl of Caring by encouraging Utahns to purchase one less bag of chips during this year's Super Bowl and make a donation to a local food bank.
In a press release, Community Action states there are over 175,000 children who are eligible for free meals at school and another 50,000 who are eligible for reduced prices for meals, stressing that childhood hunger is an ever-increasing problem in the state.
Community Action programs such as Backpacks for Kids provide food to children such as this over the weekend. The organization also has food banks in Heber, Kamas and Coalville.
The "Souper" Bowl of Caring initiative also encourages those who have donated to a local food bank to "pass a hat" around at their Super Bowl party to collect money for that food bank.
