A 50-year-old male was found deceased in the Weber River on Thursday with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest. The man was discovered at around 2 p.m. on Thursday, according to Summit County Sheriff's Capt. Justin Martinez.
A resident of Wanship, the man was last seen by family members at around 9 a.m. Thursday morning, Martinez said. The incident was reported to authorities by a fisherman who was at the Weber River, just west of Hoytsville Road, who found the man's body.
According to a Sheriff's Office report, the man's body was transported to the state medical examiner's office, although no foul play was suspected. The case is under investigation, Martinez said, who added that all of the facts and evidence make officials near certain that it was a suicide.
