The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) began construction on State Route 224 last Monday, June 2. Crews will be repaving the highway from the I-80 interchange at Kimball Junction to Bear Hollow Drive and will be adding a shoulder for shared use by Park City Transit buses and bicyclists.
During the first week of construction, which began Monday, June 2, crews were replacung and installing curb, gutter, and pedestrian ramps at various locations along the project. This coming Monday, June 9, paving work is scheduled to begin, and S.R. 224 will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Drivers should plan ahead for possible minor traffic delays due to congestion and allow extra travel time. All lanes will be open on Sundays and holidays.
"One of UDOT's main goals is to preserve our roads, and maintenance projects such as this one help us achieve that goal," said John Montoya, UDOT project manager. "Repaving S.R. 224 now keeps the pavement in good condition — and it prevents the need for more costly repairs in the future."
Paving is scheduled to begin in the southern section, from Bear Hollow Drive to Newpark Boulevard, on Monday, June 9, and will continue between 9 a.m. and 11 p.m. each day for approximately three weeks. Paving on the northern section, from Newpark Boulevard to I-80, will begin once the first section is complete and is scheduled to take place between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. each night for approximately one week. The project is expected to be complete in early July.
New detection equipment is also being installed at various traffic signals within the project area.
Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change.
