The Park City High School football team fell to Judge Memorial 42-13 Friday night in Salt Lake City in its first Region 10 match-up of the season.
Bulldog quarterback Kaden Elliss wreaked havoc on the Park City defense throughout the evening, having a hand in five of the six Judge Memorial touchdowns. Elliss started off his evening with a 43-yard touchdown run, then found Max Barnett for an 11-yard touchdown pass.
After Judge tailback Michael Kearns scored on a 36-yard touchdown to give the Bulldogs a 21-0 lead, Park City sophomore quarterback Ian Moritz scrambled for a seven-yard score to cut the Bulldog lead to 21-7 heading into halftime.
But just as they did in the first half, the Bulldogs came out firing at the start of the third quarter as Elliss ran for another touchdown, this time a 17-yard scamper to give Judge a 28-7 lead. The banner evening for the Judge quarterback continued when he found Sean McMinimee for a 36-yard score.
Moritz would help get the Miners back on the scoreboard minutes later with a 16-yard touchdown pass to junior receiver Alec Wing.
But Elliss had his name heard once more as he sprinted for a 61-yard touchdown prior to the end of the third quarter.
Wing continued to shine as a go-to wide receiver, hauling in a game-high 135 yards a touchdown on nine receptions. After being converted from a quarterback, Wing has emerged as one of Moritz's favorite targets. He leads the team in reception yards (378) and touchdown receptions (five).
Park City was paced on the ground by senior running back Trevor Kelsch, who ran for 75 yards on 17 carries, and Moritz, who threw for 140 yards on 12-of-27 passing attempts. The sophomore also ran for 62 yards on 17 carries.
Defensively against the Bulldogs, Konnor Andersen and Matt Payne led the way with 10 tackles apiece, followed by Trace Jorgensen (six) and Lucas Anderson (five).
This week, the Miners head east in search of their first Region 10 win of the season. They're scheduled to take on the Union Cougars Friday night in Roosevelt. The Cougars, 3-3, are coming off a 35-0 drubbing at the hands of Juan Diego. Union is led by a duo of running backs in Gavin Nielsen and Steve Welsh. Nielsen has run for 400 yards so far this season, while Welsh has 285 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
Kick off in Roosevelt is scheduled for 7 p.m. Friday.
