Thirty-one years since its inception, the Park City Ski Team 5K Mountain Fun Run in Park City has become as much of a tradition as fireworks and the parade.
Designed as a fundraiser for the Park City Ski Team (PCST) and sponsored by Cole Sport and Industrial Supply since day one, the event continues to grow from year to year.
Jesse Hunt, the PCST director, said everyone in the community is encouraged to attend. From kindergartners to 80-year-olds, Hunt said the race will be open to everyone who wishes to participate.
"It's really a celebration for runners in the community," he said. "We've had over 1,000 people for the past couple years."
He added that it fits perfectly into the Fourth of July festivities.
"You can come out and exercise in the morning before the parade and fireworks," he said. "It really works well hand-in-hand with the celebration."
As the event grows, Hunt said the ski team benefits more and more.
"We raised close to $20,000 for the program last year," he said. "It's a really important fundraiser for the PCST."
Runners will be treated to T-shirts with a celebratory Fourth of July design, according to Hunt, in addition to other fun things.
"There are lots of awards and prizes," he said.
Registration is $20 for runners 11 and under and $30 for adults. Race-day registration is available, with prices rising to $25 for runners 11 and under and $35 for adults.
The course design is the same as it was last year, according to Hunt, running along parts of Three Kings Drive and Silver King Drive.
The race will begin at 8 a.m., with registration running from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. in the Cole Sport parking lot.
"It's just a great opportunity to get out and get some exercise," Hunt said.
