Park City Standup Paddleboarding will be out at the Jordanelle Reservoir's personal watercraft ramp Saturday, Aug. 24, to host the second and final PC SUP Cup race of the season.
Beginning at 8:15 a.m., the event will feature several different races surfboard style, open class (men's and women's) and elite class as well as a kids' race.
PC SUP owner Trent Hickman said there's something for everyone to do out at the Jordanelle.
"It's a fun day on the water," he said. "There will be food provided by Done to Your Taste catering and a DJ spinning music. There will be boards to try out as well."
Hickman said his favorite part of hosting the SUP Cup is the kids' race because getting kids active and involved in the sport is a great way to promote lifelong health.
"The kids' race is really important to me, making sure that it's fun for the kids," he said. "It's about having the kids learn how to be good sports. It's about doing your personal best that's what competition is."
Both kids and adults will be eligible for the prize giveaways.
"We've got an inflatable board from Hobie that we're going to award, and Riviera is sending us a solid board that we're going to award as well," Hickman said. "Those are the main prizes. Then we've got a bunch of treatments at local chiropractors and spas and hopefully some weekend getaways to St. Regis and Waldorf Astoria."
Hickman is expecting a bigger turnout for the second race of the season.
"We've got a bunch of people signed up.
Like the first SUP Cup race in June, Saturday's event will benefit the Park City Education Foundation, Recycle Utah and DesignBuildBLUFF, a group that designs eco-friendly housing for Native American families in Bluff, Utah.
"We're hoping that they'll be able to have a beach presence so that people will be able to donate at the event if they'd like," Hickman said. "I kind of want to support these causes perpetually. They're causes I think are really cool and I think the PC SUP Cup can be a good vehicle to raise awareness for some of these groups."
Registration for the SUP Cup race is open at pcsupcup.com.
PC SUP is located at 1375 Deer Valley Drive and is open every day from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Board rentals are available and there are new and used boards available for purchase, including some inventory at season-ending discounts.
