Sheriff’s report: Jar containing between $3,000 and $5,000 stolen from Francis home

According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, law enforcement responded to several calls between Sunday, March 3, and Sunday, March 10, including the theft of a jar containing between $3,000 and $5,000 from a home in Francis.

Sunday, March 10
Deputies performed 10 traffic stops and responded to one non-injury vehicle accident and a hit and run. No other significant incidents were reported.

Saturday, March 9
Dispatch received a report that several vehicles were hit by another vehicle overnight at the Holiday Hills campground in Coalville.



A member of Summit County Search and Rescue, along with Utah State Parks employees, responded to the Whitney Reservoir in the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest after dispatch received a report of a separated party of snowmobilers. The snowmobilers were located and escorted back to the Bear River area.

Friday, March 8
When deputies stopped a vehicle on S.R. 224 for a traffic violation, they discovered the driver had multiple outstanding warrants and was in possession of THC oils. The driver was arrested under suspicion of DUI, possession of a controlled substance and a headlight violation.



A woman’s wallet containing cash and several cards was stolen from a hotel in the Basin.

A woman reported she lost her prescription bottle in the Redstone area of Kimball Junction. An investigation was underway.

Thursday, March 7
Deputies noticed a truck parked at Matt Knoop Park in the Basin with its lights on. When they approached the occupants, they detected the smell of marijuana. The two men were cited for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Both were released.

Dispatch received a report about a scam involving someone claiming to be a lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Office, requesting money in the form of gift cards. An investigation was underway.

Employees at a business in Kimball Junction reported that a man and a woman entered the store and took several shopping bags full of items without paying for them. An investigation was underway.

Wednesday, March 6
A report was filed with the Sheriff’s Office about some violins that were missing or stolen from a home in the Basin. An investigation was underway.

Tuesday, March 5
A jar containing between $3,000 and $5,000 was taken from a home in Francis. An investigation was underway.

A man contacted dispatch after his credit card was used at a gas station in Provo to withdraw $200 from an ATM. An investigation was underway.

A laptop, jewelry and various keys were taken from a home in the Basin. An investigation was underway.

Monday, March 4
Deputies performed 13 traffic stops and responded to two wildlife problems and three parking problems.

Sunday, March 3
Dispatch received a report of an intoxicated man that had fallen and hit his face on the sidewalk in the Newpark area. He was arrested for intoxication after medical personnel cleared him.
