Book Discussion: ‘Prince Among Slaves’
The Park City Library, 1255 Park Ave., will hold a book discussion about Terry Alford’s "Prince Among Slaves" on Wednesday, Feb. 26, from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. The book, published in 2007, is about Abd al Rahman Ibrahima, a Muslim slave who, in 1807, was recognized by an Irish ship’s surgeon as the son of an African king who had saved his life many years earlier. ‘Prince Among Slaves’ Free Screening
The Park City Library will host a free screening of Andrea Kalin and Bill Duke’s 2007 documentary "Prince Among Slaves," not rated, in the Jim Santy Auditorium, 1255 Park Ave., on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. The event is made possible by a Part of the Bridging Cultures: Muslim Journeys grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. The film is based on Terry Alford’s book about Abd al Rahman Ibrahima, who, after 40 years of slavery, reclaimed his freedom and traveled throughout the northern states to raise enough money to buy his children’s freedom. Special Storytime Meet the Author at the Park City Library
The Park City Library, 1255 Park Ave., will host a meet the author storytime featuring Dr. Joyce F. Gerber on Thursday, Feb. 27, from 10 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Gerber is the author of "Touching the Heart: Educational Activities for Teachers & Parents." On the last Friday of each month, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m., members of the Park City Art Gallery Association offer a free unique monthly showcase highlighting artists, special exhibits and art events.
