Scholastic holiday book sale will benefit Summit County Libraries
The Summit County Library system, which includes libraries at Coalville, Kimball Junction and Kamas, offers an array of activities for young and old to promote literacy.
In addition to the Bookmobile — a roving check-out center — the system presents baby rhyme times, story times for pre-schoolers and young-adult book clubs, to name a few.
All of these services are provided to the community, free of charge.
To ensure the continuation of these programs and to help keep all the facilities funded, the Friends of the Summit County Library, a nonprofit organization, has hosted a holiday warehouse book sale.
This year’s sale will be held Nov. 22 through Nov. 24 at the Summit County Library Kimball Junction Branch, 1885 Ute Blvd.
The event, which has been held for the past nine years, is a partnership with Scholastic Books, an international publishing company, said Tina Blake, president of the Friends of the Summit County Library.
"We earn money for Friends by hosting and providing volunteers to work the sale," Blake told The Park Record during an email interview. "We have cases and cases of books."
The books for this sale, which is usually held at the end of autumn, are all new and donated by Scholastic.
"There are no used books," Blake said. "[The] used, donated books are sold at our Memorial Day sale."
In addition to the books, other items are also put up for sale during the event.
"[We sell] occasionally book related stuffed animals, software, pens/pencils, journals, craft and science kits and bookmarks," Blake said.
Although the sale is open to the public, people can register online by visiting http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/events/warehouse.
While registration is not required there are benefits, Blake said.
If people visit http://www.scholastic.com/bookfairs/events , they will receive a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase or $25 off a $100 purchase, she said.
"And you will receive notifications of future sales from Scholastic," Blake said.
The book sale is one of the ways the Summit County Library System receives funding for their programs.
"The Friends accept monetary donations all year long and are fortunate enough to have some regular donors," Blake said. "We are fortunate that Summit County residents are very supportive and hope they will come out for the sale. It’s a wonderful chance to buy for not only you, your kids and grandkids but also for teachers, Sub for Santa, Road home or other charities as a Christmas gift. Books don’t spoil and you can stock up for birthdays."
Friends of the Summit County Library will hold its annual Scholastic holiday warehouse book sale on from Thursday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 24, at the Summit County Library Kimball Junction Branch, 1885 Ute Blvd. Thursday hours are from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday’s hours are from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m., Saturday’s hours run from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m and Sunday’s hours will be from noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 435-615-3900.
