Sundance suspends festival ticket sales
October 16, 2015
Due to an Internet glitch, the Sundance Institute suspended ticket package and festival pass sales on Wednesday for the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
"I’m very sorry to report that we experienced some technical difficulties and have stopped ticket sales for the day," according to a statement released by Elizabeth Latenser, Sundance Institute’s manager of media relations. "We will reopen next week and send an email with more info when confirmed and continue to post updates on our site (http://www.sundance.org )."
Wednesday was the first day Sundance offered ticket packages and festival passes to patrons without having them register.
Sarah Pearce, Sundance Film Festival’s managing director, apologized and released a statement.
"If you received a purchase confirmation, your sale will be honored," Pearce said. "Our customer service agents are working to personally respond to your calls and emails. Plenty of inventory remains so don’t worry if you weren’t able to purchase today. If you’re on our email list we’ll send you more specific information about ticketing reopening and we will post updates on our site, too."
During an earlier interview, Linda Pfafflin, the festival’s associate director of ticketing and customer service, said the goal of eliminating the registration step was to help festivalgoers obtain tickets quicker and easier.

"Because our audience experiences the festival in a variety of ways, we offer a wide variety of pass, package and individual ticket options," Pfafflin said. "[This way] patrons have one less thing to remember. Everyone logs on at the same time which is very similar to the process of purchasing tickets for a concert."
