48Straight race showcases local Van Dine

This Saturday at the Jeep 48Straight supercross event at The Canyons, much of the Park City spotlight will be on local Chris Van Dine. A fan favorite at last year’s race Van Dine’s debut his appearance this time looks to be no different.

"I love racing in Park City," Van Dine said. "The crowd definitely goes a long way in races like this."

Van Dine was seeded fifth in the standings coming into this week’s race. He said the secret of his success this year was to come into the season with no expectations.

"I’m taking a different approach this year," Van Dine said.

He says that the Jeep race is one of his favorites and also one of the best in existence. The series is packed with talent with a mix of Olympians, World Cup and X Games racers.

"This race is going to have the most talent at a bike race in Utah hands down," Van Dine said earlier this week.

It is one of the few mountain bike series that allows spectators to watch allof the race. The race is slalom style and takes about one minute complete. Two racers go head to head and compete side by side to get to the final round.

"The dual-slalom format is super exciting to watch," he said. "I’m encouraging people to come out. It’s a great family thing. You can see the whole race It’s very intense and won by seconds. It’s not dull."

Admission to the event is free. The finals will be held Saturday from 3 to 5:30 p.m. The concert by Rogue Wave will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m.
