A lunch room divided

Dale Thompson Of the Record staff

Some walls divide countries, in the case of Park City High School it’s a lunch room.

Over the winter break a partition was put up in the PCHS cafeteria to separate portions of the room that will be demolished from those that will be left standing. According to Principal Hal Smith approximately 80 percent of the lunchroom is still being used. Space is not an issue because the school has two lunch breaks which prevent the lunch room from becoming too crowded.

Students have mixed reactions to the wall. "I think it’s a necessary evil," Jenna Dye, a junior, said.

Amanda Johanson, a junior, is unhappy about the new partition. "I think the wall is stupid. I heard that they only built it so that kids wouldn’t jump off the stairs but I don’t think high school kids would like jump to their death."

Other changes took place over winter break. The main electrical source for the school was relocated from across the street to a location near Treasure Mountain International School. Smith said changing the power source should help prevent the frequent brown outs that have plagued the school over the last 25 years.

Some minor electrical work was also done in the ceilings during Winter Break.

The school continues to make preparations to move students to portable classrooms by Feb. 1. The necessary ramps and staircases are in place around the portables but electricity and Internet still needs to be installed. The restroom portable is scheduled to arrive by Jan. 7.
