A smooth new machine at the Park City Ice Arena

by Jay Hamburger THE PARK RECORD

Jon Pistey, the operations manager at the Park City Ice Arena, says a new ice resurfacing machine, made by Olympia and operated with electricity, is far more energy efficient than other models.

He says the ice at the arena can be resurfaced between 20 and 24 times before it needs to be recharged. Pistey says the machine that had been used needed to be recharged every 10 to 12 resurfacings. Staffers resurface the ice every 60 to 90 minutes when the arena is open.

The ice arena acquired the new machine in January. It cost $187,000 and is expected to last 20 years.
