Alpine Loop closed due to mudslides

As of 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, the Alpine Loop Road was closed and was not expected to reopen until the afternoon. According to the Utah Department of Transportation, mudslides, a result of heavy overnight rains, have forced the closure of State Route 92, near the Timpanogos Visitors Center as well as state Road 144 (Tibble Fork) while crews work over the next 5 to 6 hours clearing the debris.

Five different slides (most of them minor) partially covered various sections of the roads, with mud up to 7 feet deep in one location. According to UDOT, crews escorted vehicles that were stuck overnight out of the canyon, but as of Weds. morning, the canyon was fully closed while they worked to get it reopened.
