ATV accident critically injures Oakley boy

By Patrick Parkinson, of The Record staff

A 9-year-old Oakley boy was critically injured Monday when he was run over by an all terrain vehicle in his yard.

The boy suffered severe head and upper torso injuries and was airlifted to Primary Children’s Medical Center, according to Summit County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Nick Wilkinson.

At about 8:45 p.m. the boy was helping his 12-year-old brother pull a Polaris Ranger into a garage attached to the South Summit home, Wilkinson said.

The victim was unconscious when emergency responders arrived, according to Wilkinson.

"The patient was reportedly standing behind the ATV when the operator lost control and the ATV backed over the patient, causing his injuries," Wilkinson said in a prepared statement.

An investigation is underway, he said.
