Basin man arrested after mall store broken into

A Park City police officer early Thursday morning arrested a man suspected of breaking into a store in the Main Street Mall and stealing 14 belts worth nearly $2,000 combined.

Luke Dennis Menders, 21 years old and from the Snyderville Basin, faces three charges, including two felonies, according to the Police Department.

Phil Kirk, a police captain, said a burglar alarm triggered at 2:21 a.m. Marty Howard, a police officer who responded, tracked the suspect to the stairs linking upper Main Street with Old Town side streets.

Howard arrested Menders without incident close to the stairs on upper Woodside Avenue, Kirk said. Menders had the belts with him when he was arrested, the captain said.

Kirk said the police are continuing the investigation and another business in the mall or nearby might have been broken into that night.
