Basin man finds human body in yard

A Silver Creek man found the lower half of a human body in his backyard last Thursday.

Homeowner Don Armstrong said he noticed his dog chewing on a strange shoe the day before, but didn’t think anything of it. On Thursday, he went outside to check on his dog and found the bones.

"When I got close, I realized it was a corpse," he said.

He immediately called 911 on a cellular phone.

"It was as strange as you could imagine it was," he said.

His first thought was that someone dumped the body on his property. He lives adjacent to open space with several trails. But deputies told him the body had likely been in another part of the yard and was dragged by an animal to where he found it.

In addition to his own dog, he frequently sees wildlife in and around his yard ranging from foxes to moose.

After the shock wore off, Armstrong said he felt sad.

"I wish I could have turned the clock back to try something to save him," he said. "But I certainly have no idea what that would be."

Det. Ron Bridge with the Summit County Sheriff’s Office said he cannot comment on the case as it is still under investigation.
