Ecker Hill Middle School celebrated its One Book, One School initiative by inviting Richard Paul Evans, author of "Michael Vey, The Prisoner of Cell 25" to a school-wide assembly this week. Students received signed copies of the book after listening to Evans talk about the importance of reading. The book follows Michael Vey, a teenager who has secret powers and joins together with his peers with similar abilities. According to Ecker Hill 7th-grade teacher Liz Thompson, students also participated in a reading trivia game and asked Evans questions during the assembly. "The One Book, One School program has been well received by both students and staff this year and will definitely be continued in the future at Ecker Hill," Thompson said, adding that students were required to do in-class and homework readings along with reading extension activities.
