Bryon Friedman needs your vote
Local singer/songwriter Bryon Friedman got an exciting phone call during his European tour earlier this month. "I got this message from Sirius XM Radio like, ‘Hey man, you’ve been chosen as one of the top five emerging singer/songwriters on the Coffee House channel," he recalls. "I was completely surprised by it. I was psyched, I had no idea they were doing anything like that."
Coffee House is a singer-songwriter and acoustic rock radio station accessible through Sirius satellite radio and the Dish Network. The Singer-Songwriter Discovery of the Year contest is actually between six artists that are featured on the station and are considered up-and-coming talent.
Listeners are invited to vote on their favorite artist on the station’s websites, http://www.sirius.com/thecoffeehouse or http://www.xmradio.com/thecoffeehouse , before Monday, Jan. 4. The two artists with the most votes will advance to the final round and the Indigo Girls, a Grammy-award winning folk rock duo, will select an artist to open for them on a show during their 2010 tour.
Friedman says the Coffee House picked up "Spring Cleaning" from his latest album, Matchstick Memories, and it has been getting some good airplay.
On Christmas day, he returned from a two-and-a-half week stint through Germany, Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein, where he and his band enjoyed some quality bonding times in different venues and on the slopes. "It was quite an experience taking the band over there and sharing that whole scene with them and getting to do it in a different way," he says.
Despite the jetlag from being delayed an extra day on his trip home, Friedman performed at The Sidecar on Saturday night. Now he’s gearing up to open for The Band of Heathens at Harry O’s on Jan. 14. Band member Gordy Quist was actually Freidman’s roommate in college. "We’ve never shared a stage before and so we’re really looking forward to it," he says.
Friedman also recently released a new single on iTunes called "Once Upon a Time." In February, he’ll be traveling to Whistler for the duration of the Winter Olympics.
Meanwhile, he’s taking it easy and hoping that his loyal Park City fans will show their support by voting for him in the Singer-Songwriter Discovery of the Year contest.
