Unemployment rate up to 7.2 percent
According to the Utah Department of Workforce Services, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate, Utah’s primary indicator of current labor market conditions generated by U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, increased one-tenth of a percentage point to 7.2 percent. Last March, the state’s rate was 6.4 percent, a 0.8 percentage-point increase over the past 12 months. Utah has last seen an unemployment rate of 7.2 percent in early 1982, at the start of that time period’s emerging national recession, and early 1984, as the nation pulled out of that same recession. The United States unemployment rate remained unchanged for a third straight month at 9.7 percent.
