Gasoline prices inexplicably high

According to AAA Utah, which reports gas prices as a service to consumers, Utah’s gasoline prices have soared from 5th lowest in the country to the 10th highest in just one month. The average price in Utah for a gallon of regular, unleaded is $2.74. This is 14 cents higher than last month’s survey on Jan. 12, and $1.03 higher than a year ago. Only nine states have prices higher than Utah. This is the time of year when gasoline prices in Utah are typically lower than the rest of the country, according to AAA Utah spokesperson Rolayne Fairclough. Less driving in winter has been the traditional reason for lower prices. Oil supplies continue to be robust and demand is low due to the season and the extreme winter weather experienced in many parts of the country.
