Silver Queen yard sale benefits public servants

The Silver Queen Hotel took advantage of a recent interior demolition, providing the furniture and fixtures of its 12 units for an inexpensive yard sale for local public servants such as teachers, police officers and firefighters. Roughly 40 families attended the event, which was hosted over the week, allowing participants to schedule a time to see the goods that were on sale. From washing machines to curtains to food processors, the hotel sold a wide swath of the items originally in the rooms. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the "Shop with a Cop" program where law enforcement agencies help low-income families shop for Christmas presents. Everyone who purchased an item at the yard sale was asked to sign up for a community project next spring. The Silver Queen Hotel has yet to decide on the specific project and will announce the charity of choice later this year. The renovations at the hotel are scheduled to be completed in 2013.
