Thursday, Park City Board of Realtors nine-member directors’ board surprised Mike Sloan with a 2005 Director’s Award for his contributions to real estate and community service and ethical practices.

Sloan, a director, was one of the original charter members and a director of the Park City Board of Realtors in 1980 and continued to serve on the board of directors through 1983.

During his impromptu acceptance speech at the board’s luncheon at the Yarrow, Sloan recalled at the start of the association, there were but three members. According to the board’s chief executive officer Sharon Woodbury, the Park City Board of Realtors has since grown to include 957 members and 117 affiliates.

Sloan served as board president in 1982 and as president from 1989 to 1992. Sloan was also president of the Wasatch County Board of Realtors in 1998. He is a lifetime member of The Masters, and received the Professional Achievement Award and Realtor of the Year in 1999 from the Park City Board of Realtors. For 2005, the Utah Association of Realtors also recognized Sloan as Realtor of The Year.

Sloan participated in the Utah Association of Realtors beginning in 1982 and served as president in 2003. He has been involved with Park City Board’s finance and statistics committee and served as the organization’s statistician. Sloan became co-president for the Prospector Square Property Owners Association in 1978 and continues to be involved.

Sloan moved his family to Park City in the fall of 1976 and real estate is the only business that he has been involved in over the past 30 years.

Woodbury says the Director’s Award is not given on an annual basis, and in the 25 years since the board’s inception has been awarded 19 times. The award is given to a director who has made significant contributions and meritorious service to the real estate industry, has contributed to the greater community, and exemplifies fairness, integrity, and professionalism.
