Caleb Klauder livens up The Livery
August 17, 2010
Portland-based songwriter, vocalist and instrumentalist Caleb Klauder has been performing professionally for more than 15 years and has contributed to a number of successful musical groups including the Foghorn Stringband, Pig Iron and Calobo.
Mountain Town Music will bring Klauder and his all-star Country Band to The Livery at High West Distillery on Wednesday, Aug. 25, to entertain the masses with Betse Ellis from the Wilders and special guests Lash LaRue. Doors open at 8 p.m. and $10 tickets can be purchased in advance at http://www.mountaintownmusic.org or at the door.
"Caleb Klauder and special guest Betse Ellis are two of the most passionate and talented musicians I have ever seen and heard play the old time, honky tonk and good ol’ country genres," says Karri Walzer, a member of the Mountain Town Music Board Of Trustees. "Together they each know and regularly play thousands of fiddle tunes and ballads. And that doesn’t even include the songs they have each written themselves."
"Ellis is the most hard-driving, high-energy fiddle player I have ever heard," says Brian Richards, Mountain Town Music’s Community Conductor of Musical Affairs. "Her personality literally oozes out into the audience and is impossible to resist. This along with Caleb Klauder’s commitment to the fun, traditional and completely heartfelt music make this duo simply irresistible."
On his new record, "Dangerous Me’s and Poisonous You’s," Klauder draws on his diverse musical background to create a sound that is simple and pure. With pedal steel, fiddles, mandolin, acoustic guitar, upright bass and drums, the Caleb Klauder Country Band captures the sounds of honky tonk, old-time, Cajun, and western swing.
Seven of the twelve songs are original, and the others are covers of artists such as Ray Price, Kitty Wells and Dolly Parton. The result is a fine showcase of Klauder’s songwriting and his ability to render old favorites in a way that is faithful to the originals while sounding fresh and unique.
