Can’t afford a dentist appointment and need one?
Park City Dentistry will hold a free day of dentistry on May 14 at its office on 1600 Snow Creek Drive.
Dr. Cody Calderwood explained that there are a lot of people in Park City who can’t afford treatments and check-ups, "People don’t realize that there is a huge dental need in Park City," he said.
While there are a lot of wealthy people, Calderwood explained that a lot of people who can’t afford a dentist appointment may be living with tooth pain every day. "It’s our way of helping them out," Calderwood said.
Last year, the office partnered with a national non-profit organization called Dentistry from the Heart to offer a free day of dentistry. This year, Dr. Calderwood has decided to do the day of free dentistry solo, "We decided that we don’t have to go through an organization to do a day offering free services," Calderwood said.
Office Manager RanDee Graham explained that the staff has enough materials from last year to last through this year’s day of free dentistry, "we received enough supplies with a long enough shelf life that we won’t have to have anything donated this year," Graham said.
The day of free dentistry will allow Calderwood’s practice to give something back to the community, "It’s a lot easier to do a day of free dentistry rather than trying to help people with no other options year round," Graham explained.
Calderwood hopes this year will draw in as many people as last year. "Patients started lining up outside the doors at 7 a.m.," Calderwood said.
Park City Dentistry will offer patients the choice of either an oral cleaning, extraction or filling. Patients will be helped on a first-come, first-served basis. Calderwood hopes to see at least 30 patients throughout the day.
People most in need of dental work are welcome, "we really want to gear this toward the people in town that can’t normally afford appointments on their own," Calderwood said.
Park City Dentistry is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Saturday. For more information about the free day of dentistry, call 435-649-4343.
