Child falls up to 30 feet from Deer Valley lift

by Jay Hamburger, of The Record staff

A child fell between 20 and 30 feet off a chairlift at Deer Valley Resort Tuesday afternoon, a resort spokesperson said. Erin Grady said the child was on a chair on the Sterling Express lift when he fell. She said the boy was riding the chair lift with an instructor and another child. The fall occurred close to the top of the lift, she said. Grady declined to discuss the boy’s injuries, but she said the resort’s ski patrol responded quickly and the boy was brought down in a toboggan. An ambulance took the boy to Primary Children’s Medical Center in Salt Lake City, she said. A hospital spokesperson did not immediately have information about the boy. Deer Valley officials are investigating the fall.
